Guide: USP (United States Pharmacopeia) – Sign-up instructions

The United States Pharmacopeia (USP), published by the non-profit scientific organisation the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USPC), sets public quality standards for medicines and health-related products.

Its main compendium, USP–NF (United States Pharmacopeia–National Formulary), brings together monographs and general chapters containing specifications, methods and requirements that help verify the identity, potency, quality and purity of substances, pharmaceutical preparations and excipients. In the United States, these standards have legal recognition where an applicable monograph exists (e.g., for products labelled as “USP” or “NF”), although the USP is not a regulatory body: verification of compliance is the responsibility of the competent authorities (such as the FDA).
